Do you have any comments?  I've been back to Carol's homtown, Oceanside, CA, since 1980 when I got out of the Corp. I had a bad stroke in 1995 but think I now may be up to attending the reunion in Reno. I'm mostly in a wheel or power chair and can't climb bus steps. Can Jim Park find a bus with a lift so Carol & I can take a tour together? Carol works the computer for me and we'd like to hear from you via e-mail. We enjoyed visiting the website as its been a long time. Semper Fi.

Not much left that I could recognize, the admin bldg is still there, and the geedunk, and what is left of the old sea-air club. The old hanger/classroom bldgs are still there too, but it has just changed so much. Left feeling old, but then I guess I am. jake

Subject: MARINE CORPS CRYPTOLOGY
Sir,
I am LtCol Vincent C. Kucala, USMC. My Father Master Chief Kucala, CTO, sent me your email concerning Marine Corps Cryptology. I believe I can offer you a few answers. I am a Marine Corps Intelligence Officer and currently serving as the Marine Corps Intellingecne/Cryptologic Occupational Field Sponsor.
I began my commissioned service as a 2602 - Crytptologic/Electronic Warfare Officer. For the first 12 + years of my career Basic Intelligence and Cryptology were separate Occupational specialties. However the field merged with Intelligence back in the mid 90's. Today we break our officers down as follows - 0203 (Basic Ground Intel Officer), 0204 (Counter Intelligence), 0206 (Cryptologic Officer), 0207(Aviation Intelligence), 0210 (Warrant Officer Counter Intelligence) and 2602 (Warrant Officer Cryptologic). At the Rank of captain all officers become 0202's Basic Intelligence Officers and can serve in various intelligence and Cryptologic billets.
From the Enlisted side for Cryptology we have the 2621 Occupational Specialty (this was the old Manual Morse but has turned into Special Signals), the 2631 field (ELINT), 2651 (which is the Marine Corps version of CTO'S) and 267X which is our language trained Marines (CTI). With the exception of the 267X's all of the basic Cryptologic Marines currently go through Corry Station along side their Navy counterparts. Naval Cryptology is changing though -- the old CTO rating has been dissolved with Information Technology being the direction pursued by the CTO community.
The old Marine Support Battalion which was co-located with CNSG has been redesignated Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion, and we now have three Radio Battalion, 1st Radio has been moved to Southern California to Camp Pendleton, 2nd Radio Battalion remains at Camp Lejeune and 3rd Radio Battalion is now in K-Bay Hawaii.
Marines receiving the MOS 2600 can plan to serve duties at both MCSB, and RADBN. The support battalion is made up of the following companies:
Company A, MCSB - Denver, CO.
Company B, MCSB - Ft. Meade, MD
Company D, MCSB - Ft. Gordon, GA
Company G, MCSB - Menwith Hill, UK
Company H, MCSB - San Antonio, TX
Company I, MCSB - Kunia, HI
Company L, MCSB - Suitland, MD
The old Companies, C, E, F all have been closed. Company K was redesignated a Training Command under Marine Corps Training and Education Command. I have had the pleasure of being the first Commanding Officer of Company A, in Denver and was the Company XO for Company L when the company was in GITMO. I have also served at 2d Radio Battalion. As an 0202 - I have been a
MEU S-2, MEB G-2 and served as staff officers at HQMC Operations branch and now in the Intelligence Branch.
Sir, feel free to contact me at work my number is (703)614-6561 if you have any questions or if I can be of further assistance. My Work Email is kucalavc@hqmc.usmc.mil.
Semper Fi,
Good luck to your son in his future.  Very Respectfully,
Vincent C. Kucala
LtCol of Marines

Do you have any comments?  I've been away from the Corps for over 3.5 years -- there are days that I do miss being a Marine (on active duty) until I remember the PT, Force Marches, and Counseling sessions. Found my "niche" as a consultant in a major firm, continuing to support the military as an Intel specialist, in Norfolk. While on active duty, life was good; now, life is great!!!
