Sweet Warm Winds of Arkansas
by Tom Hunnicutt

1st Verse
I’ve been locked here in this prison nigh on to eighteen months.
A soldier who was captured – a soldier who was young.
I’ve watched my comrades dying - the bravest men I’ve known.
All proud to be Americans and proud of their Christian homes.

2nd Verse
I watched them from the shadows saw their evil ways.
Endured their pain and torture and cried a many day.
We could not have a Bible – they would not let us pray,
But they couldn’t turn our loyalties or change our Christian ways.

Chorus
And Sweet Warm Winds of Arkansas flow gently through my mind.
They take me back to better days – to a different point in time.
I hear my mother calling – son, it’s supper time.
And Sweet Warm Winds of Arkansas flow gently through my mind.

3rd Verse
Now, I’m kneeling in their courtyard – my life is ‘bout to end.
Their voices seem to fade away – when Jesus took my hand.
I could hear the angels singing – their voices sound so clear.
I could see my mother smiling – she’s standing next to him.

2nd Chorus
As Sweet Warm Winds of Arkansas flow gently through my mind.
They take me back to better days – to a different point in time.
I hear my mother calling – Son, your almost home.
And Sweet Warm Winds of Arkansas flow gently through my mind.

Chorus/Verse Ending
And the sweet warm winds of America flowed gently through their minds.
For these fallen heroes came from difference states and lived at different times.
Yet, each one has a vision of Ol’ Glory waving high,
So the sweet warm winds of liberty would continue on through time.
And sweet warm winds of America flowed gently their minds.
